Infrastructure

The infrastructure under everything else

Cloud projects stall when the foundation is shaky. I fix and modernize the systems small IT teams inherit: directories, mail, servers and the network between sites.

What I work on

Directories, mail, servers and networks

Active Directory, DNS and DHCP

Health checks, cleanup of old domains, domain controller replacement without readdressing, Group Policy audits, and DHCP stability work.

Exchange and mail flow

On-premises Exchange recovery, hybrid mail-flow fixes, connector cleanup, decommissioning legacy servers, and migrations to Exchange Online.

Windows Server and virtualization

Server upgrades and migrations, Hyper-V and VMware environments, and storage planning, with a rollback plan for every cutover.

Networks across sites

Palo Alto firewalls, Aruba and Cisco switching and wireless, segmentation, and as-built documentation your team can maintain.

How a project runs

From assessment to handoff

  1. Assessment

What's there, what's fragile, what it will take.

  2. Written scope

A written scope and estimate before work starts.

  3. Build and cutover

Scheduled around your school day or business hours.

  4. Handoff

Runbooks and as-built documentation at handoff.

Recent work

Recent infrastructure projects

  • Brought a Virginia school division's Exchange admin console and mail relay back online and planned the retirement of a forgotten legacy server.
  • Stabilized domain controllers and DNS across a multi-site environment.
  • Documented a firewall and switching migration with security control mapping.

Send me what's there and what needs to change. I'll tell you plainly whether it fits and what it takes.
